What is being decided?

A draft management plan for Wara Wayingga-Tennyson Dunes Conservation Reserve has been developed to guide protection of this special place by addressing conservation needs and providing sustainable public access for all to enjoy.

Wara Wayingga-Tennyson Dunes Conservation Reserve is a unique area, home to one of the last remnant coastal dune systems along the Adelaide metropolitan coast and rich in biodiversity. It is a place for people to connect with nature within an urban area, and is highly valued by the Traditional Owners as well as the local community and volunteers.

The plan sets the vision for the area, and describes the future directions and opportunities for managing the reserve.

It also sets objectives and strategies to addresses the most important management issues for Wara Wayingga-Tennyson Dunes Conservation Reserve, based on natural, cultural and social values, including:

  • Protecting and restoring a treasured environment
  • Balancing access and protection
  • Creating a place to come together to learn, connect and act
  • Building capacity to look after the dunes
  • Committing to an agreed management approach.

How can your input influence the decision?

Your feedback will be provided to the Tennyson Dunes Working Group and will help shape the final management plan for the Wara Wayingga-Tennyson Dunes Conservation Reserve. The final management plan will then be sent to the Minister for Environment and Water for adoption.

The plan is expected to be finalised by early 2019 and will be made available on YourSAy.
