The River Murray is critical to South Australia’s communities, industries, unique environment and way of life. The Water Allocation Plan for the River Murray Prescribed Watercourse is established to manage and protect the river for all water users, ensuring its sustainability.
The water allocation plan has been in place since 2002, and was updated in 2019 to make sure it works effectively and manages issues facing the river.
Previous changes incorporate lessons from the Millennium Drought, as well as improvements to existing policies to make sure they are compliant with the requirements of the Basin Plan.
The 2019 private carryover policy is now being reviewed to address stakeholders' feedback and further improve the policy.
To find out more about the water allocation plan visit the Natural Resources SA Murray Darling Basin website.
